Priocom improves IP-network of MТS

Kiev, 6 November 2007 - Companies PrioCom and MTS-Ukraine announce completion of work on improving and updating the IP network of the leading mobile operator of Ukraine, MTS, with the use of the MPLS technology.

This project is a result of the tender, won by the company PrioCom, for construction and improvement of the MTS's backbone network with the use of MPLS and DWDM technologies.

The project that lasted for 1,5 years consisted of two stages.

At the first stage there was constructed a high-speed IP core with nodal switching centers in cities Kiev - Khar'kov - Donetsk - Dnepropetrovsk - Simferopol - Odessa - L'vov. This core is organized on the basis of highly productive routers made by the company Cisco Systems. The constructed core is a universal scalable IP/MPLS transport infrastructure with an operator's class reliability level and guaranteed quality of servicing for transmission of any types of packet traffic. The new core extends possibilities for progress of existing data transmission services (GPRS/EDGE) as well as introduction of innovational telecommunications services (VoIP, mobile television, virtual private networks (MPLS VPN) for corporate clients).

The essence of the second stage consisted in transfer (migration) of the existing structure of the MTS's network to the constructed IP/MPLS core. The principal complexity of this stage consisted in that the whole work was to be carried out without traffic loss in the operator's network.

For a successful execution of work on the network migration, PrioCom's specialists have carried out a set of jobs: audit of the existing operator's network, working-out of the plan of migration, and execution of IP/MPLS network testing programs in the own laboratory of PrioCom.

The whole work on updating the packet network of the MTS-Ukraine was completed in October 2007.

This was not the first joint project of PrioCom and MTS-Ukraine: work on construction of an optical DWDM network had been completed in the past year.
